She sat, head down, fingers gliding gently across the keys. As she pressed each one, created each sound, her heart would swell and a sickening warmness would spread through her pores. Her hands danced across the piano, music filling the empty room in an almost eerie way. The sound reverberated from all sides of her. It was all she could hear. As the melody rose and fell, so did her chest.
She was breathing heavily, pounding the keys at some points, her emotions overriding any control she may have had. The playing became more and more erratic, more and more chaotically beautiful... until she collapsed, beads of water pouring steadily from her tired eyes. She slammed her hands hard against the keys and let her tears trickle down her cheeks onto them. Her body no longer listened to her, her limbs were acting of their own accord. Her hands came down in a flurry of assaults, her fists hitting with such force one would expect the claviature to break. The discordant notes created a tune of sorrow and pain that rang throughout the room like a bell tolling to those on a death march. It seemed almost as if hours had passed before she even began to regain a semblance of control.
As her breathing began to slow, she wrapped her bloody hand in her dress, her chest heaving, her eyes still blurred from tears. Though her vision was hazy, she could see the pools of red amassing around the ivory, flowing downward onto the floor. She lifted her unscathed hand and let her fingers gently press against the keys, her fingertips stained scarlet. She laid her head on the keyboard, delicately playing the same few notes of a scale, until the haze became a fog, then darkness.
